Books & Brackets Blog Hop

Hello there!

I am so excited to be a part of the Books & Brackets March Book Blog Hop.  Thanks to Jackie at Neat, Sweet & Hard to Beat and a lot of other fabulous bloggers who are a part of this blog hop.  On all of our blogs, you will get a FREEBIE and have the chance to win the book that goes along with that freebie.  You will also have the chance to win a $75 TpT gift card as well.

One of my favorite books to read in March is Sally Jean, the Bicycle Queen by Cari Best.  It makes me think of spring and all of the bike riding my students do.  Just look at that smile on Sally Jean's face as she's riding her bike-it's infectious.  Living in Wisconsin makes spring so much better because we haven't had nice weather in like 6 months-OK, maybe not that long, but it sure does feel like it.  Those first nice days are incredible!

Click on the book to buy your own copy or keep reading...

One way I use this book is for an Interactive Read Aloud.  Do you do interactive read alouds?  Tell me in the comments below.  They are one of the  most important things we do in first grade.  Lucy Calkins says, “One of the most powerful ways to teach children to think is to teach them to engage in thoughtful discussions...” from her book A Guide to the Reading Workshop-Primary Grades by Lucy Calkins.  Chapter 3: What Does Research Say that All Readers Need?

We want to teach our students to be thoughtfully literate and interactive read alouds are a great way to do just that.  I just did a periscope on why I do them daily and how I organize and plan for them for my classroom. You can watch it here or click below!

Here is the product that I refer to in that periscope-it's FREE!

I am also giving you a FREE Interactive Read Aloud.  It will only be free for a limited time, so make sure to grab it now.  Make sure to leave feedback to let me know what you think!
